Exclusive interview with Martha Moore herself:

Tell us a little bit about you and
your business.
My name Martha Pinaire Moore, and I studied Business and Art at Montreat College in Montreat, NC.  I work full time in the buying office for Belk, and use
my business to focus my creative and business minded energy.

How long have you been a crafter/artist and what inspired you to start?
My parents started nurturing my creative side at age 3.  I studied art for 15
years, Russian ballet for 13 years, and violin for 10 years. I love color, music and movement!

What is your favorite thing to make?
My favorite thing to make are my ribbons wreaths and trees. They take hours of coordinating colors and burning myself with hot glue, but the end result it
worth it. My ribbon wreath was even featured in the 2011 Holiday edition of Romantic Homes magazine.

Any advice you'd like to offer other crafters / artists?
Do what makes you happy, and don't be discouraged by naysayers. Your are unique, and so is your art!

Where is your favorite spot in Charlotte?
Hobby lobby.

Kidding?
Maybe, but I could spend hours wandering the aisles alone.

What are most looking forward to for summer?
Celebrating 7 years of marriage by bringing our new (to us) 1968 split level back to her glory days.

Check out Martha's etsy shop and come meet her in person on May 31st for the Make Out!

International Charm Day is right around the corner, we at Crown Town Handmade, and Beadlush are getting prepared for the exciting occasion. What's that you say? You haven't heard of such a thing? Well, allow me to enlighten you. Bead Artist Amber Dawn has been hosting, for several years now, an artistic swap of ideas and products. On April 28th each year she invites artists to exchange gifts of handcrafted artisan trinkets to adorn wrists and necks alike. Now if you are saying to yourself,
"Vanessa, this sounds super cute and all, but I'm no jewelry artist! How could I participate if I don't even know how to wrap a headpin? Also, what is a headpin?"
Well, fret not my inquisitive friend for you have two chances to learn and participate!
Crown Town Handmade, shares a free craft with the community every month. This month I have volunteered to team us up with my day job at Beadlush and teach some fun different charms. On Thursday April 26th you will be "Charmed I'm Sure" to Join us at Beadlush in Plaza Midwood. We are going to play with simple looped charms, Shrink Plastic, and 3-D Gloss Medium (or single step resin). You will have the opportunity to make one of each type.
Want to learn more about the proper technique to wrap these charms? "If you can't Bead 'Em, Charm 'Em"! Saturday April 28th at 11:00 AM I will be teach a beginner wrapped loop class focusing on Charms. The class fee will be included in the price of kits available for purchase (with everything you will need to "charm" everyone.)
"But Vanessa, what about the exchange?"
Don't worry, I didn't forget. All day Saturday April 28th Beadlush will be hosting a free Charm Exchange! (10am-5:30pm) Just drop off however many charms you would like to swap and pick up your new charms as early as Sunday (April 29th). These can be anything that is handcrafted and can hang from a charm bracelet or necklace (nothing more than 2 in long please) I'm really excited about this, and we want to make this an annual event, but we need people to participate! So charm us, really charm us!
Happy Crafting!

Come join Crown Town Handmade and Rachel Lock of Add Some Zing for this
month’s free Make Out craft event on Thursday, March 29th! Rachel will be teaching us how to fancy up some boring notebooks with decoupage. Materials will be provided, but of course if you have a favorite journal or fabric you want to use you can bring it along. Check out our Facebook event page for more information.
Rachel is a crafty entrepreneur that loves all things unique! She is the
creative force behind Add Some Zing, a line of bags, brooches, and other
accessories made using discontinued and repurposed upholstery fabric. While she
has always been creative, it wasn’t until 2 years ago that she decided to turn her little “side projects” into a crafty business. Rachel tells us little more about herself and her business:

What is your favorite thing to make?
My messenger style bags.

Any advice you'd like to offer other crafters / artists?
If it doesn’t look quite right just add a little more glitter

Where is your favorite spot in Charlotte?
Any and all shops that sell fabric

What part of Spring are you most excited for?
Having friends over to cook out in the back yard.

We’d like to extend a big thank you to Rachel for leading and to Beadlush for hosting us!

Make Outs are free and open to all ages. We always appreciate donations to help
pay for supplies.

We look forward to seeing you next week!

Our fellow Crown Town member Emily of By Emily taught the Make Out session last night at MoNa (formerly known as Plaza Muse).  She showed everyone how to make "Holey Valentines".  The above ones are done by Sarah Terry of Stitch Machine.  Want to send a valentine to that special friend or lovahhh?  Check out the tutorial for Fabric Window Valentines at the Purl Bee!  Wow, I have a ton of fabric scraps that I could use for these cute little cards and it looks so easy (especially for someone who doesn't sew often).  Have fun making your valentines and stop by our facebook page to share your homemade cards.   We'd love to see what you come up with!

A little over a week ago I taught a group of eager crafters how to transform yarn scraps into fuzzy little balls of fun. This fun and easy (not to mention cheep!) craft is quick to put together, and you will soon find yourself buried under an adorable mountain of fuzzballs. We made hair pins, and necklaces, but you could string them to make garland for your Christmas tree (or Halloween tree a bit earlier).
Follow these directions to make your own!
Crafters shaving down their puff balls.
Sarah of Stitch Machine showing off her Pom Pom necklace. In Techno-color!
We made quite a mess on the floors of our gracious hosts Plaza Muse.
Thanks to all who came out to our September Make Out.  We had Such a blast!
Join us next time where I'm headlining again. And since I'm running the show for two months in a row my Coupon code will be effective through the end of November.  My coupon code good for 15% off all of Corvidae Jewelry available to all Friends of Crown Town Handmade.

Check out Corvidae Jewelry   and enter the coupon code FALLCROWN15
And be sure to join us next month when we all try to eat your brains!

Hello Crown Town Handmade members!  I'm very excited about tomorrow's Make Out session.  Vanessa from Corvidae Jewelry will be teaching you how to make pom poms out of balls of yarn!  How cool is that?  Everyone will meet at Plaza Muse at 7:30pm.  You don't need to bring anything but yourself (unless of course you have a particular color or fiber of yarn you want to bring).  Wanna know more?  Go here to read up on the details.  Take lots of photos of your fun creations and be sure to share them!
